I would like to take a moment to make a note of appreciation to all of the wonderful inventions of our modern time that make daily life more bearable for all of us, coming from the point of view of a mother.
I often find my thoughts wandering to imagining what life was like for people in the past, even as recently as 100 years ago. We have got it so easy comparatively, and we should be thankful every time we use our modern conveniences.
Of course it could be many times better, considering the truly astounding rate of progress. I do believe that there is much, much room for improvement, and we as a society must demand this. But, that shall be a topic for another rant.
Life would be nearly impossible without things like Ziplock bags, stain remover, Q-tips, and duct tape. Toothbrushes are essential. Scuncii (tm) has made a permanate place in my heart. I shudder at the thought of using rope instead. Ugh.
We must take the time to thank our hot water heater, our microwave, our washer/dryer, and baking spray. Seriously ask yourself where you would be without them. Imagine being a pioneer and washing your clothes and bathing in a cold river. They did it. How many among us could say that we could do the same? Imagine that scenario with cloth baby diapers to keep clean. What a nightmare.
I do not consider a 'car' an invention - it is several put together; however, how loudly do we complain when it is broken. Try living without your dishwasher, or your television or beloved pc for a week. Most of us would simply go mad.
I would appreciate feedback on this story - please relay what you find as your most coveted conventiece. Perhaps try an experiment and see how long you could go without it, and post a comment for us. We would love your feedback.
