Hey,

I am a brand spanking new inventor and I want to build a prototype for a very simple elecrical device i thought of. My skills are non existant with electronics, my strengths lie in my vision and business experience. Are there firms that can build prototypes for you? How can I find an individual to help me? and how can I make sure I dont get screwed by said prototyper? Any guidence would be much appreciated.

Got wind of Elector Magazine offering a CD full of programs to design electronic circuitry, maybe some of those have Wizards...

Then there's a company on the Net that you provide the citcuitry, and they build it for you, no questions asked. I don't recall the name right now, but I'll look into it.

They build mechanic stuff, too, and have for both a pair of programs where you just design the thing and order it by the net!

Got some Business experience?

Why not associate with a guy that's an Electronics Geek, but without any experience on the market side of things, and want to sell someting of his own?

I would build it for you, if I weren't stranded on formal, pompous, idiot-ruled €uropa!

Hey Guys,

Rex, I'm sure there are plenty of local businesses and individuals that can get you off to a good start.

Of course, your expense will depend on the specific purpose of the prototype, itself. If you just need a "quick and dirty" physical model to evaluate your idea, the cost should be pretty reasonable, especially if your device is relatively simple.

Naturally, if you need something that you can take to potential investors, you're gonna want to focus quite a bit on its appearance, as well. Sometimes, off-the-shelf parts lend themselves to a particular project, even as a commercial prototype. You should probably spare no expense in that regard, though, as first impressions can mean everything.

I've even written an Ebook, for these Frequently Asked Questions, it's advertised somewhere else on this site, so if you want, look it up.

...And now, there's fab@home.org

http://www.fabathome.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

so you can make your own Fabber, for 2400$, IF you dont have old PC hardware hangin' around, 'cos then, it's even cheaper!!!

....And, you can make your 12$ 3D scanner(!) with a laser edge, a webcam and the free source DAVID program!

Thus, you can make your Prototype, see if it works, and then send your 3D files to Mr.Mold, for example!

Yup, it's like Linux... We got a lot of stuff available on the Net for Inventors, it's up to you to connect the dots. Smile

Are you still there, Rex? Very Happy

Of course I could come over 'n lend a hand, only I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic... That's why I didn't offer to.

You know, there's an Inventors Meet in Chaves, Portugal, that's the small, cheerful Country next to Spain, looking right at you, if you could come over for the 26, 27 Weekend this Month , we could talk 'bout it, the Portuguese Inventor's Association will be there too.

http://www.flaviacriativa.net/index.php?lang=2

That's an invitation to all Inventors that can carry their Inventions or Ideas along, the thing's gone International.
