Well, this project was actually completed over a year ago and I'm just now getting around to posting it. I took lots of pictures though thinking at the time that I would like to post the information about it here.

I had been working on my 93 Chevy Corsica, as I posted about in the auto repair forum section ( www.loneinventor.com/ftopict-97.html ). One day shortly there after I was changing the oil, or some such thing when one of my neighbors approached me.

He says, "Say, I've noticed you working on a lot of engines and stuff around lately and I'm wondering if you would like this old engine stand I have. I'm not using it, and I need to get rid of it to make some space." I replied, "Well sure" and promptly went over to his house, and carried it home over my shoulder.

Here's how it looked when it arrived:

Not so bad for a free stand if you ask me. There was a bit of rust on it, and a few rusted bolts so I decided to sand the rust and apply some new paint and bolts.

I used a pneumatic die grinder for the sanding. I could have used wet/dry sandpaper, but the grinder is much quicker with an abrasive pad on it. Don't forget to wear a mask! The paint on this was plenty old enough to have lots of lead dust in it. I only had a cheap paper type, but it's better than nothing.

Here's some of the parts after being sanded:

That shiny metal looks really good just like that, but it won't keep the rust away very well so I suppose I'll have to cover it up again.

First, a couple primer coats:

Either the camera moved while this picture was taken, or this engine stand is in the process of astral projection, or some other dizzying phenomenon.

Now, for a couple coats of paint:

Wow! My eyes are beginning to believe this engine stand is exhibiting radioactive characteristics for some reason... Perhaps it's my futuristic 1 megapixel HP photosmart C130.

And here are a couple pictures of the finished product:

Granted, there's not a lot of difference between the first and second photo but it was hard to choose which one to use and since I posted every other photo taken of this project, I would feel bad if it wasn't included.
