Well, I finally got to building one, and it's a monster too
The Design Specs:
Can't remember (dangit, been to long), I'll get the exact info up in a couple days
Why start small, when you what you want is at least nine foot streamers
The Capacitor bank
Went with the beer bottle caps, as I have fun getting the empties
Over a hundred of them as I recall.
Tricks:
Labels on the bottles where striped off with a table knife, after softening in the bathtub for a few hours. This step really pays off in the end. Trying to scrape them dry is far to time consuming.
Wrapping the Secondary:
Six inch PVC secondary, around 1100+ wraps of ?? AWG (again, will modify this soon)
The Base:
Made from an old counter top, formica topped.
I will edit this post soon with more pics and such..

You WILL get that picture ATB
I finally collected my third MOT (microwave oven transformer) That I needed to power this monster. I have been looking for the right MOT for over a year now. Rather hard to find I guess, if you don't have an electronics repair place close at hand.
I will be digging the secondary out of storage within the next month, and ordering some caps for a MMC array. The beer bottle caps that I do have aren't really the best thing for tuning the coil with, as I don't have a capacitance meter... There's always hope for a meter under the tree though!
Hope to have some very encouraging news very soon.

Tesla coiling update,
As of May 23-2005:
I have yet to grab that secondary out of storage, many, many things in my way lately. If you read my post about my daughters accident, well that has a large part to do with it these days.
I am still looking forward to getting right back at it however, and hope to have some specs, pics, and more updates very soon.

How is it going? Did you make it yet? Are they expensive to make? _________________ Dark Lady of the Sith
