I have a couple of ideas that I think might work . These ideas are very simple that and inexpensive to produce that is what makes them such a excpetional idea the simplicity. I have done some research at the u.s. patent websited and did not find any thing similar to my best idea. I was wonder who might be able to give me acurate advise whether I have any thing worth pursuing. I just want free advise. I would be glad to share in any profits but dont want to be robbed like some of these companies.

I'm in the same boat as you.
I have an excellent idea for a piece of hardware, it uses simple electronics but needs software developing for it.
I'm no good with electronics, although i do understand roughly how it would work.
I'm not much of a coder either. But that's getting ahead of myself, first stage is to build my hardware.
Back on topic though... I'm having an incredibly hard time finding anyone to give me advice or help. I've mass mailed pretty much every Venture Capital Company I can find in a hope I can gain finance to pay for things like design, and later production/marketing.
I would suggest following the same route as me, I intend to discuss with of these companies what my product is and where the market is etc etc. I'll be signing an NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) with them beforehand, to protect my interests and basically to make sure they can't steal my idea even though it's not patented yet. (Because it's not designed and i don't have the finance to pay for the patent search yet)
Hope any of that helps you, I wish you luck with your search for help. But unfortunately we're both in the same boat. And I posted here 2 days ago in prototyping and got no response. _________________ All paid jobs absorb and degrade the mind.

My names Salem Honey, I work with Designmyidea.com
you can check out our company profile, but bascially feel free to drop us a line on your ideas, etc. Were happy to always dispense advice, and if we can do some design / packaging etc work for you, all the better.
Free advice because: I like inventors, and word of mouth has grown our company for the last year and a half.
So, drop us a line if you like: our head designer, Brian Gates holds a # of patents and is working (frustratingly) on getting his first product to market right now, giving us a different perspective then "Promotion" companies that take 80% royalties and huge monies up front. _________________ -Salem Honey, VP Marketing

won't work... no one will drop any idea to any one else (may be except their wife/husband) just like that... even signing a non-disclosure agreement has some reserve....
I think the best route is really the inventor himself... think hard... think again.... that is why it is called lone inventor... the "LONE" word is what it is with invention, once you share the idea... you open the door of risk... and you cannot concentrate on invention anymore worrying your idea has leak or even opened to public.... so don't drop your idea to anyone...sometimes even your wife...
this is what I would asked :
1. how expensive you can produce the product with your idea, and how much you can sell this type of thing... then is there a profit after figuring out these two numbers approx...
2. is this thing a nice to have or help a lot or much have ... thing
3. how many people will be benefit from this invention, like what percentages...
if answers to above 3 questions score high, you have a good idea. if the answers to above questions score low... you dont'
if you have a good idea, go patent it yourself after reading some books... unless you have so much money that you can hire someone to do for you...
Above is totally my personal opinion, and this is exactly happening to myself and I just order the two books from amazon.ca yesterday...
Inventors that are just getting started may not know what to expect when attempting to get a patent, copyright or market their invention. One way to get started is to seek help from a service provider that assist people with patenting, copyrighting, marketing and prototyping. Invention Resource International is one such organization that provides services that will help bring your new invention, idea to market with sound marketing strategies. There is a fee involved but it may not be as costly as getting a patent attorney and they even give you a free invention kit to help you get started.
